Original recipe card for Chocolate Layer Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 3 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 3 scant cupfuls Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Instructions

  1. Cream the sugar and butter together, add the milk and the baking powder, which has been sifted with the flour; now add the vanilla.
  2. Pour into layer cake tins and bake in a hot oven.
  3. When done, ice with chocolate icing.
  4. For Chocolate Icing, see recipe No. 565 and add some finely grated chocolate.
