Original recipe card for Up-to-Date Gingerbread

Ingredients

  • 1 Cupful Molasses
  • ½ Cupful Sugar
  • ½ Cupful Butter
  • 1 Teaspoonful Powdered Ginger
  • 1 Teaspoonful Powdered Cloves
  • 1 Teaspoonful Powdered Cinnamon
  • 1 Teaspoonful Powdered Allspice
  • 2 Teaspoonfuls Baking Soda
  • 3 Cupfuls Flour
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Cupful Boiling Water
  • 1 Teaspoonful Baking Powder

Instructions

  1. Beat the butter and sugar to a cream, then add the molasses, flour, spices, baking powder, the soda stirred in the boiling water and the eggs well beaten.
  2. Turn into a buttered and floured tin and bake in a moderate oven until ready.
