Original recipe card for Parker House Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 quart Flour
  • 1 teaspoonful Salt
  • 2 teaspoonfuls Baking Powder
  • 1 tablespoonful Butter
  • 1 pint Milk

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour, salt and baking powder.
  2. Melt butter and add to milk; stir this into flour, etc.
  3. With spoon mix to a smooth dough, easily handled.
  4. Flour molding board, turn out dough, give one or two quick kneadings to give it smoothness.
  5. Knead and roll out 1/2 inch thick.
  6. Cut into 3-inch circles.
  7. Press pencil down across middle of each; rub edges with soft butter.
  8. Double each, lay 1 inch apart on flat greased pans.
  9. Brush with milk and bake in hot oven.
  10. If sweetening is liked, sprinkle granulated sugar over rolls before folding.
