Original recipe card for Candied Sweet Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 9 Large Sweet Potatoes
  • 1/2 Lb. Beef Fat
  • 2 Cupfuls Brown Sugar
  • 1/3 Lemon, Sliced Thin
  • 2 Cupfuls Cold Water

Instructions

  1. Peel and cut up the sweet potatoes and put them into a pot with the beef fat.
  2. Add the cold water, brown sugar and sliced lemon.
  3. Cook over a very slow fire for three hours.
  4. The syrup should be very thick and the potatoes soft and brown.
