Original Recipe Card

Ingredients
- 1 pint Lentils
- 2 ounces Butter
- 1 medium sized Onion
- 6 pints Boiling Water
- To season Salt
- To season Pepper
Instructions
- Soak lentils over-night and in the morning, put over the fire to cook until tender.
- Rub through a colander. There should be from five to six tablespoons of the lentil pulp.
- Chop up fine the onion, put on in the butter and cook until a light brown; add the lentil pulp.
- Mix it well with the butter, add the boiling water, and the salt and pepper.
- Let them boil up for a few minutes, stirring vigorously with a wooden spoon, remove to the back of the stove and cook 10 minutes longer.
- Serve with croutons.
