Original Recipe Card
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds Round Steak
- One Onion
- 4 cups Cold Water
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 4 tablespoons Butter
- 4 tablespoons Flour
- 1 1/2 cups Potatoes
Instructions
- Wipe the steak with a clean rag wrung out of cold water.
- Cut the meat in 1-inch cubes.
- Put in a kettle and add the chopped onion, pour over the water.
- Simmer for 2 hours.
- Add the salt.
- Melt the butter, add the flour and stir until well blended, then add to the hot stock.
- Wash and pare the potatoes and cut in cubes.
- Parboil in boiling salted water 8 minutes, drain, add to the meat and cook 3 minutes.
- When done, turn into a covered dish, lined with slices of browned toast, and set in the oven for 5 minutes.
