Original Recipe Card

Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups White Flour
- 3/4 cup Corn Meal
- 4 teaspoons Baking Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1 tablespoon Sugar
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- One Egg
- 1/2 cup Sweet Milk
Instructions
- Mix and sift the dry ingredients in a bowl.
- Chop the butter with a knife, beat the egg, add milk and stir all into the flour, making a soft dough that can be readily handled.
- Turn out on a floured board, toss lightly and roll out 1/2 an inch thick.
- Cut with a cutter, place a piece of butter in the center of each, fold over so that the opposite edges meet, brush the top with milk and bake in a quick oven on buttered tins, from 10 to 15 minutes.
Notes
Some flour is more dry than others, and will require more milk.
