Original recipe card for Fig Sandwiches

Ingredients

  • as needed Brown Bread
  • 3/4 lb. Brown Sugar
  • 3/4 lb. Figs
  • 1/4 lb. Seeded Raisins
  • 1/2 Lemon
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cut the bread into very thin slices and spread with the following mixture:
  2. Boil together one cup of water, the juice of one-half of a lemon, the seeded raisins, brown sugar and figs.
  3. Simmer until very soft; then add the vanilla.
  4. Beat to a smooth paste with a wooden spoon and spread on the bread.
