Original recipe card for Apple Dumplings

Ingredients

  • 1 quart Flour
  • 3 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon (scant) Salt
  • Size of an egg Butter or Lard
  • One Medium-Sized Potato

Instructions

  1. Mix flour and baking powder and salt, rub in butter, add potato grated in the flour.
  2. After the butter is well mixed, stir in milk and knead to the consistency of soft biscuit-dough.
  3. Break off pieces large enough to close over 4 quarters of an apple (or other fruit as desired) without rolling.
  4. Lay in an earthen dish and steam until the fruit is tender.
  5. Serve with sauce.
