Original recipe card for Dainty Fig Tartlets

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Pound Dried Figs
  • 3 Tablespoonfuls Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 3/4 Pint Water
  • 1/2 Cupful Chopped English Walnut Meats
  • A Few Drops Lemon Juice
  • Some Pastry

Instructions

  1. Line some tartlet tins with pastry.
  2. Cut the figs into small pieces and simmer them in the water for half an hour, then add one tablespoonful of the sugar.
  3. Remove from the fire and cool, then add the nut meats and the yolks of the eggs well beaten.
  4. Divide the mixture into the prepared tins and bake in a hot oven until ready.
  5. Make a meringue with the whites of the eggs, the remainder of the sugar and the lemon juice.
  6. Spread on the top of the tartlets and brown slightly.
