Original recipe card for Frosted Date Cakes

Ingredients

  • 1 cupful Chopped Dates
  • 1/3 cupful Butter
  • 1 cupful Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 cupful Milk
  • 1 3/4 cupfuls Flour
  • 2 teaspoonfuls Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoonful Powdered Ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoonful Grated Nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoonful Powdered Cloves
  • To taste Boiled Frosting

Instructions

  1. Beat the butter and sugar to a cream, add the eggs well beaten, the milk, flour, baking powder, spices and dates.
  2. Mix and divide into buttered-and-floured gem-pans and bake in a moderate oven for twenty-five minutes.
  3. When cold cover with the frosting and decorate with a stoned date.
